What's New at NeighborLink
2010 is off with a bang for me at NeighborLink Fort Wayne.
I’m excited for the Winter Training Series to happen again this year. I’m hoping for more of our volunteers finding value in learning how to serve with a community of like minded individuals. We really do learn better together. We’ll cover all kinds of things from basic differences between volunteers and coaches as well as learning more complex ideas behind why debriefing is important for making serving sustainable in our lives. If you’d like to come to these, check out our website and find the schedule there.
I have been receiving a number of calls from individuals needing assistance. Some need help moving and some need help with electrical issues. It’s a never ending flow of projects coming into the website that require all sorts of skills. Please take a look at that list and see how you can help out.
Have you heard of the Give a Day, Get a Day program that Disney and the HandsOn network are partnering on? We’re getting signed up which will allow you to volunteer with NeighborLink and receive a free day pass to any Disney park in the country. This is a cool program and hopefully we can get it figured out so you can maybe get at least one free ticket for a summer vacation.
We’ve got a new intern for the next couple of months. Her name is Chelsea and she’ll be leading a research project for us. We’re trying to document current information on where churches are located throughout Fort Wayne. This information will help us have current contact info, raise awareness for NeighborLink and hopefully be able to make connections geographically between churches and recipients in need. She will be blogging as well and I’ll have a post from her soon.
Finally, we have some great partnership opportunities on the table with a few businesses that we’re excited to see develop. There are some passionate people trying to use their gifts for the greater cause here locally. We’re hoping we can connect them to some opportunities.
Thanks for supporting NeighborLink and I’m looking forward to this year.
Andrew
