Internship Update - Blog by Chelsea

Well it has been a while and I do apologize. We had a nice break after J-Term and are now plunging into our second week of Spring Semester.

Needless to say I’m suffering mildly from Syllabus Shock but it’s slowly wearing off as I get acclimated into the classes and schedule.
My days are really starting to blend together!

I have to admit, it’s been harder staying involved with Neighborlink since Spring semester has picked up BUT I have been staying as active as I can!
God is definitely showing me ways to balance my life - social life, school work, internship, and another volunteer opportunity.

Part of what I do as an intern with Neighborlink is basically spread the word of what we do! I make phone calls to local churches letting them know we’re here and what we do and we swap some information about what kinds of outreach ministries they have. Through this process I’ve gotten some interest in Neighborlink that I’ll be following-up with in the near future.

I’ve also met with our head of Joe Mertz Center here at Huntington University. Basically Joe Mertz is our volunteer service and they are connected to all kinds of ministries like Habitat for Humanity and adopt-a-grandparent. The head, Grace, is really interested in what Neighborlink does and wants to hook us up with us!! The students here would be doing more of the minor needs (not things like plumbing and roofing) because we’re obviously not able to fill those needs BUT we can help raise money for those kinds of situations and like I said, help with the minor needs as well!

Grace also gave me a list of ministries in town that would probably be interested in learning about Neighborlink, so hopefully we’ll get some networking in that way too! I’m going to be making phone calls to these organizations this week.

That’s my update for now! Thanks for taking the time to read! If you see any way you can help we would greatly greatly appreciate it!
