Despair & Hope

The subject of Hope is quite the emotional cocktail.

Circumstances that we face some days, even minutes of those days, can leave you in the bottom of your emotional reservoir or have you overflowing with this idea of Hope.

Lately I’m finding my reservoir of hope drying out. There is only so much that you can shake off before you find yourself in a state of despair from the burdens of others.

If I’m feeling this way, I can only imagine what some of our recipients are feeling. I’m sure the level of hope left in me far exceeds that of them. It’s hard to carry the burden of life and find the strength to fight and to do what you know is necessary to overcome the circumstances we find ourselves in.

I believe that despair comes for being lonely. Maybe not even being physically lonely, but lonely in your situation. It’s in that moment you realize that no one else you know is neck deep with you that despair sets in.

I wish I could tell all the recipients that call me that it’s going to be alright and that we’ll be right over to fix their projects or provide the right solutions to help them. I wish I could even tell that we have wonderful volunteers that will be over regardless of whether or not they could help just to hear your story.

Regardless of how much despair we feel inside, I do know that it can be overcome. I will wait eagerly for the rainy season when the reservoir of hope can be restored.

Anyone else feeling this way these days?

James 1:2-4 - Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
