When Words Won't Come
I’ve become passionate about the captivating nature of storytelling through short films. It’s about taking a story that everyone needs to hear and telling it in a way that brings awareness and hope to a dire situation. Stories can restore hope in humanity.
We’ve been working on quite a few films at NeighborLink over the past year and last year’s strategy revolved around capturing the story as it happened, where it happened, without much direction. We wanted to take a snapshot of what happens at NeighborLink.
This year we’re working on a few narrative driven films where we want to share a thought/concept through a much more structured format. A move that I believe will give us more exposure and help our supporters understand some of the philosophy that fuels the NeighborLink mission.
I’m finding myself in that place where I have a vision for what I want to say and what I want to illustrate, but having a hard time writing that narrative. Part of it is that I’m not a great writer or even a creative writer. The other part is that it’s hard to put that philosophy into the words that I believe will convey the philosophy correctly.
It’s hard to take a concept that has come to life from years of personal experience and try to tell the story in a way that others can understand the heart behind the message in a video that’s under 5 minutes.
I’m sure I’ll figure it out because it’s a story that needs to be told and people need to be invited into. Living a life of intentionality and one that believes that a bunch of small things can change the world is one that I believe many need to discover. It makes life better, our faith come to life, and the things that we covet fade away.
