We Are the Body - Post by Chelsea

I’ve spent most of my day getting associated the Neighborlinks website, registering as a Coach, doing some surface research of churches in the southwest quadrant of Fort Wayne, and skimming through projects that people have posted asking for help.

Through my skimming, I found there are many different types of needs and requests of people in the Fort Wayne area. These needs range from automobile repairs, to requests to shovel snow, to the mere plead of a visit from a friendly face. I noticed that as of today, there are roughly 704 pleads from people asking for help in these and many other different areas.

I had my iTunes on shuffle in the background as I spent this time getting myself situated into being an intern for Neighborlink. The song “If We Are the Body” by Casting Crowns came on, and I sat and really listened to the lyrics and felt they apply so directly to the mission of Neighborlink. We are called as the body of Christ to reach out to our neighbors in need, those who are hurting and may or may not know the love of Christ.

“If we are the body, why aren’t His arms reaching? Why aren’t His hands healing? Why aren’t His words teaching? Why aren’t His feet going? Why is His love not showing them there is a way?”

The mission of Neighborlink is to do exactly those things, by being examples of Christ’s love through reaching out and lending a helping hand to those in need. Churches and other communities of Christ, the body of Christ, should be reaching out and Neighborlink provides the opportunity for Churches to do just that. We should not be asking the questions “If we are the body, why aren’t His arms reaching? Why aren’t His hands healing? Why aren’t His words teaching? Why aren’t His feet going? Why is His love not showing them there is a way?”
