Master Gardener, Sue Willard, presented to a small group of NeighborLink volunteers on Saturday morning. She provided a great presentation full of valuable information on proper trimming and pruning techniques to ensure our plants are well taken care of.

Yard maintenance is one of our most asked for and completed projects through the NeighborLink website. Although many of us have been taking care of our yards and gardens for years, there is always something to learn from an expert.

When a recipient invites us to help with their yard and garden, we believe it’s important to treat their yard and garden better than our own. When presented the opportunity to bless someone, we encourage our volunteers to exceed expectations.

Sue will be teaching community enrichment classes at IPFW this spring on gardening. I highly recommend her and her classes if you are wanting to learn more about gardening and yard maintenance. She also does private consulting and would be happy to come to your home and assess your gardening needs. You can reach her at 260.580.9871

Sue’s Upcoming Class Topic:

Landscaping For Homeowners: Feb 16th - Mar 30th

  • Viewing outdoor space as “rooms,” you will determine how the use of space would best satisfy your needs and interests.
  • Using basic principles of design, you will draw a concept plan.
  • After selecting appropriate materials and plants, you will make a working drawing and begin the process of installing your new landscape.
  • This course has been approved by the Purdue Horticulture Extension Educator for Purdue Master Gardener volunteer continuing education credit.

Container Gardening: Apr 20th & Apr 27th

In this course you will learn techniques that will give you beautiful and unique containers, overflowing with just the right annuals for your patio, landscape or window garden.
