In As Much

I spent my morning today at In As Much, which is a local ministry based out of the Broadway Christian Church in downtown Fort Wayne and is run by Alyn Biddle. Alyn has been running this organization for the past 22 years. They provide assistance in the forms of bus passes, food & clothing, and financial help. They have a very strict process that individuals must go through in order to receive assistance.

It was great to see how much effort they put into providing sustainable resources for people. It’s a ministry built on accountability. They don’t give handouts, they make the people requesting assistance earn it. Alyn shared with me that only about 50% of individuals that come through the doors requesting assistance actually fulfill the terms of the agreement and come back for the requested help. This is mainly with financial help, but there are systems in place for it all.

I can’t do the ministry justice by only visiting for one day, so I encourage you to contact Alyn and check it out to get the full scoop. Especially if you are interacting with those requesting help to get an idea of what we should be doing when providing assistance. I believe they are doing all they can for the sake of development rather than betterment in people’s lives and for our city.

They have volunteer opportunities Mon, Wed, Fri in the mornings if you want to check it out.  I know I will be more often and believe this is an environment as a Christian leader that I need to be spending time in to learn the best way to serve people.

Let’s be in the development game providing long term solutions for people.
