Credit Card For Charitable Giving

Who has ever signed up for a credit card just for the cash back, reward points, airline tickets, etc.? My wife and I definitely have. We signed up for a airline rewards card right when we got engaged knowing that we were going to spend a lot of money planning a wedding and could get a free plane ticket by doing so. Win for us.

Who has ever signed up for a credit card as a way to donate to your favorite charity? Probably not many of you. Many probably didn’t even know this was possible.

Capital One has an incentive program that allows charities to create their own credit card rewards program for their loyal supporters. After much research last spring, NeighborLink registered for this program and created our own cards.

My wife and I got rid of all our other rewards cards and got our own NeighborLink cards. Granted, we don’t use our credit cards often and typically only on bigger purchases in order to be rewarded in some way. Last year after doing some home improvement projects, we were able to donate $143 to NeighborLink in a short period of time.

My wife and I are NOT fans of debt nor is NeighborLink, which is not our motivation for this card. We are however, like many others, fans of using incentive programs to our benefit, like this card. Everyone has there own philosophies on card use and should act within those parameters.

I would encourage you to look into it if you’re a nonprofit or looking for ways to incorporate charitable giving into your everyday flow of life.

$143 doesn’t seem like that big of a deal until you realize that $143 could be enough funding to get a handful of projects done at NeighborLink. That’s almost 5 gallons of paint.
