An Ode to the Mini-Roller

I started painting my house about two months later than I should have. Why? Well, lots of reasons but mostly revolving around the fact that I didn’t really want to do it. The other big reason was a lack of follow through on a number of contractors that never showed up, never followed through on their desire to do the work, and one who had a medical issue. I couldn’t even pay for help. 

Anyway, I was blind sided by the amount of work that it actually was. It was way more work than I anticipated and had remembered it being from other homes I’ve worked on before. Three months was not enough time to paint our house and that was even with a couple of days of having some really good help. 

This post is a silly take on my renewed understanding of how great of a tool a mini paint roller can be. 

I’d like to say thank you, mini-roller. I’m still not sure why it took me so long to realize you’d be the right tool for the job for the painting of the outside of the house.

I mean, I should have known just by looking at you. You’re narrow like the slats of the siding. You’re thin and nimble to roll easily across the wood. You can take a really thick nap cover that holds just the right amount of paint to fill in all the crevices of the crackled paint that remains on the siding. You’re light and less tiring to use than a brush. You even will screw onto extension poles so I can reach to places that my ladder wouldn’t lead me to and a brush couldn’t reach.

I’m sorry it took so long, but rest assured you’ll be my number one go-to tool to finish painting the house. You made quick work of painting the east side of the house and you even work well with others. I saw how you worked as a team with the brush and I appreciate that. 

Your ability to do your job well gave me the boost I needed to finish strong this season and get to a good stopping point before the weather got too cold to paint. 

So, if I don’t see you before Spring, have a nice winter and we’ll see you in a few months.
