2011 Winter Training Series Announced

This is our 3rd year hosting a Winter Training Series at NeighborLink. We use the Winter months to stay connected and train our volunteers since the weather prevents us from doing a lot of outdoor projects, which are our main projects.

This year we’re going to one longer gathering once a month rather than a shorter gathering each week. Each month we’ll have a 3 hour gathering that will allow you to choose from 2 different presentations at each gathering. You can still pick and choose what sessions you want to come to and come and go as you please.

Please take a look at the schedule and topics. I hope you’ll join us.

Introduction to NeighborLink

Andrew Hoffman will share how NeighborLink was formed, how it all works and where we’re heading in 2011 & beyond. It’s vital to know the philosophy for why we do what we do & to learn where you fit in that story.

NeighborLink Coach Training

Jeff Shatto will review what we think makes a great coach & provide you with tips for how to be a great leader at NL. The difference from a basic volunteer & a coach is only a mindset. Come learn what it takes.

How to Use the Website

Brett Meyer will teach you how to use the new website. It’s full of features that will help you lead well and find volunteers to meet the needs. It’s an easy site to use once you get the hang of it.  We want to teach you everything you need to know.

A Guide to Local Social Services

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Michelle Hoffman, will be providing you with information & basic skills for knowing how to help people when you cannot do it yourself. When are Adult or Child Protective Services needed, etc.? She’s been developing a resource guide for the type of issues we typically find.

Volunteer Roundtable

Telling our stories is important for what we all do and we learn best from our peers who are learning as well. This will be an open time to share about what you’ve experienced as a volunteer.

How To Live in Tension Round Table

If you do enough projects at NeighborLink or engage in activities like what NL offers, you have experienced the tension of serving. A veteran NL Coach will lead a discussion on how to handle that tension so you can remain engaged in loving your neighbor.

How To Engage the Recipient

If NL is successful, it means we’re helping people learn how to help themselves. This means sometimes the recipient or their family needs to be invited into the process & help out. John Barce will share some successful ways to share with you on how to make that happen.

How to Organize Service Based Initiatives

Many churches use service days as their main avenue for mobilizing its congregation into the community. We’ve learned a lot about this type of event over the past 7 years & will share how to use NL to do that.

It’s About Relationships, Not Projects

Everything we do is about connecting people. We’re a local missional organization that cares deeply about mobilizing Christ-followers into the community to meet those who are inviting us in through projects. We’ll host a dialogue on what this means to us & hear from you what it means to you.
