Youth Leadership

I met a young guy named Nate last Spring here in Fort Wayne. Nate is a senior at Concordia Lutheran High School and had connected to NL by Google searching for volunteer opportunities in Fort Wayne. We met after he contacted me to see how to get involved and better yet, how to get his community and school groups involved in community service.

Fast forward a few months and a lot of other factors that go along with Nate’s story, and he’s organizing a house painting project this weekend for a single mother.  Yes, an ENTIRE house worth of painting including scraping, priming and all the other leadership challenges that go with a group of high school students.

Has Nate ever painted a house before? Nope. But, that’s alright with me because he’ll figure it out and he’s the kind of guy that will get it done no matter what.

Thanks to Habitat for Humanity here in Fort Wayne for their donation of paint for the project and Lowes for tinting it for us. Thank all of our other donors who helped us purchase brushes, scrapers and other supplies.

Nate is challenging me and I hope it challenges you as you think about the huge task he’s taken on as a leader. Makes me think about how I’m spending my Saturday this week.

I’ll post some photos and hopefully a report.
