Woodworking Must Have - Kreg Jig

My wife and I renovated a 100 year old house and I’ve decided to build quite a bit of furniture over the past year or two. It’s hard to find furniture we like that fits the style of our home and after doing just about every kind of home remodeling, it’s hard to justify the prices when I know I can build something we’d like.

There are lots tools you need, but there is one that is a must have if you’re making furniture using the simplest joints possible.

The Kreg Jig.

The Kreg Jig makes these pocket type holes that allow you to make tight connections when creating butt joints. You never want to put screws into the end of the board to make a joint. The just won’t stay.

I’m no furniture building expert nor do I have a fancy woodworking shop. I’m either building outdoors or in a garage and use basic power tools. I’m pretty average at it and stick to simple designs, so this tool makes life a lot easier.

My current project is wooden storm windows for our old house and using this will help make those joints strong. I’ll post some additional pictures as the windows get put together.

You can start with the basic jig, which is what I have for about $45 or you can opt for the more expensive one at $99, but only get it if you plan on doing a lot of building. I wish i would have gotten bigger one myself.

If you’re listening online Kreg, feel free to say thank you for the blog post by sending me one of the bigger jigs. If you want of course.

Here’s a picture of the desk and bookshelves I made last year. All joints were put together by using this jig.
