The first thing everyone did when they came to the conference was reserve their own seat. We tried to find the best spot and laid our stuff down without thinking of anyone else but ourselves. Rick called out this sobering example to say that the attitude we have that makes us want to reserve our chairs is the same attitude that a pimp would have with his girls. The problem of injustice is our propensity toward greed and self. The vision of community must override our default vision of me. It takes a radical intervention of God’s grace to get our eyes off our chair and onto other people. We are infused with a grace which produces energy, and that energy is to be sown in community. Justice can be simply expressed as neighborliness.

The Justice Conference | Erin Vroom

This is a quote from Rick McKinley’s speech from The Justice Conference last weekend in Portland that was included in this blog post recap from a young woman who was there.

I wish I could have been there again this year.

There are lots of other great nuggets in this recap. Worth the read if you’re into that sorta thing.
