Our First Fully Crowd-Funded Project!

IT WORKS!

We launched our very own crowd-funding tool on the NeighborLink Fort Wayne website back at the beginning of April, and our very first project has officially been funded! Since this project has been funded, a donor cleared 4 other projects from the website with a large donation to cover the remaining costs.

I believe this first project is a monumental progression in the world of NeighborLink and how the community responds to the needs of its neighbors. Not only was it the first crowd-funded project, it was also one of the hardest projects we tackle at NeighborLink.

Fourteen people made an average donation of $178.57 for a total of $2,500 to make sure Audrey gets a new roof put on her house. Donations ranged from $5 to $1,000. I’m really grateful for those fourteen people that caught the vision, we’re compelled by Audrey’s story, and committed to helping this project’s Coach make sure the project got done. This project is slated to get done on July 20th & 21st as part of our Raise the Roof Event.

In total, the 5 projects that have been completely funded on the website have brought in a grand total of $4,800 since April 10th. In a world where large donation and foundation grant funding is getting harder to get, this gives us hope that the mission of NeighborLink will carry on independent of those funding sources like it always has. We can make a difference with one $5 donation after another.

It goes to show that technology really can bring neighbors together to make our community a better place.
