NeighborLink Partners with Downtown Improvement District

I’ve told you about the Great American Cleanup before and this is how you can specifically get involved if you haven’t already submitted your application. We’ve been asked to help out the Downtown Improvement District as they try to clean up the entry points into downtown. Below you will find more info. If you’d like to participate with us, email me at Andrew@nlfw.org and I’ll put you on the list.

I need your commitment by this Friday in order to secure you a t-shirt and pair of gloves. You’ll be able to sign up between now and May 15th to actually help out.

Official Press Release:
The Downtown Improvement District (DID) and Business on Broadway (BOB) are partnering with several local organizations and businesses to host The Great Gateway Green-Up, a cleanup event that will have hundreds of volunteers beautifying city streets around downtown and along Broadway Street.

The event is being held as part of the City’s annual Great American Cleanup event. The Great American Cleanup is a national cleanup event that encourages thousands of residents each year to beautify their communities. In 2009, over 4,200 people participated in the local Great American Cleanup event, collecting over 193,360 pounds of litter, debris, and other materials.

The Great Gateway Green-Up will take place on Saturday, May 15, from 9 a.m. to noon at two locations simultaneously - downtown and Broadway Street. Work done downtown will be focused along southern areas of downtown from Calhoun Street to Fairfield Avenue, while work done on Broadway will center around the intersection of Broadway and Taylor streets.

This event is being promoted as a Bring Your Own Tools (BYOT) event, which asks volunteers to bring anything they think might come in handy for this event, such as shovels or rakes. All work will consist of simple beautification tasks, such as weed and debris removal or litter pickup.
