It's Already Started..Help!
Today is the end of week two for me and things are rolling right along. I’m beginning to make connections with existing partnering agencies, existing coaches, new prospective coaches and volunteers, and receiving requests for help. It’s exciting to be tied to an organization that has a great reputation for serving the Fort Wayne community and finding ways to get people the help they need. It’s great to be lead into something like this.
The biggest challenge so far is actually listening to the requests for help. There have been very few that I actually feel confident that I can help with. Projects like roofing issues, cleaning needs, and moving needs. I’ve gotten a few calls from people that have needs that don’t even come close to what we do but somehow have gotten pointed towards NeighborLink. Calls like a friend calling on behalf of someone looking for a way to find them help with substance abuse and is about to loose everything. Another call from a younger guy who was injured at work and left disabled whose insurance has run out and is now homeless and with nothing looking for someone to help him figure what’s next. All I can do is point them to another organization and pray that they can help.
Have you ever been on the brink of homelessness? I have no clue what that looks like as I sit in a coffee shop typing away on my shiny white laptop.
I’m not sure what to do other than do my best to help individuals find the resources and organizations that can help them find peace.
Consider this a call for help. If you or someone you know works for an organization that exists to provide services to individuals in need, let me know who you are and what you’re about. I don’t want to end a conversation with someone saying I can’t help.
And, we have a website full of people with all kinds of home repairs and cleaning needs available to you if you want to step outside of the comfort zone and help aid in them finding peace.
