Isaiah 58

6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
       to set the oppressed free
       and break every yoke?

7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe him,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

I went on a 24-hour spiritual retreat and fast this past weekend. I had a lot on my mind hoping for many answers to things on my heart for NeighborLink and other areas of life. Like I do a lot of the times, I found myself a bit restless and eager for answers and still a little protective of the thoughts I was wanting guidance on for some reason. It was great to be able to go on this type of retreat with a couple of other people to have a few times where we come together and discuss where we’re at with the time and to pray together about these things.  Some scripture that has been discussed and is actually leading a particular ministry at FMC is Isaiah 58. I went there to begin the time because I had really spent much time pouring over it and it seemed to revealing to my current position.

I would encourage you to read over the entire chapter and to meditate on it’s words. For me it was revealing in how I approach the Lord with my intentional times of fasting or prayer. If I’m honest with God, I come to him hoping for my agenda to be fulfilled through just fasting and prayer and I think He wants to reveal things to us as we serve.

If you’re waiting for God to reveal something to you or waiting for Him to guide you out of a tough time, maybe it’s time to help someone out worse off than you. You are always a blessing.
