If you’ve been connected to NeighborLink for awhile, you’ve recognized some external factors such as the power or lack of involvement by the neighborhood that surrounds the recipients. You may have also discussed the concept of “White flight" or “suburban sprawl" as a contributor to some of our more run-down or marginalized communities.

As I’ve been drawn more and more into figuring out the root contributors to the issues our recipients face, I can’t get away from these concepts playing a part in our community’s problems.

I would challenge you to read this book. I’ve been reading it and it gives some great historical context for the way America was settled and developed. It’s a good beginning point.

If you take this challenge, let me know because I think we should be having these discussions as we engage in making thing better through our efforts.
