I see this all the time with the recipients we work with at NeighborLink. It’s not about retirement as the article suggests as much as it is about survival. There is no room for “life’s circumstances" in a $900/mo income for seniors depending on Social Security as their primary source of income. 

Most are one leaky roof or a broken water heater from being in real danger.
