Duct tape, paper clip, and a match...

Just had lunch with a bunch of people that work for non-profits. It’s a monthly lunch where people get together with the familiar taste of being at the end of what they intellectually know to do with what they have. They live in the tension of not always knowing what to do or having the resources to do what they know how to do. It’s kinda of a hopeless realization. But, I believe this is where really good things happen.

It’s that place where you know you have nothing in your back pocket, just what’s in front of you. You don’t have a cash reserve held back to whip out and provide the simple solution, which isn’t always the right solution. All you have is what you know, what you have, and what others around the table have. Total MacGyver mode. The place that you know the only way anything will get done, is if God shows up. This is the place to be.

What I realized today is how much need there is and so little money available. Each one of us around the table is doing everything they can to provide the help they specialize in providing to seeking people. They do their best to be as responsible as they can with that money, but it just never goes far enough, and if they only had a little more. I’m faced with a real possible way of expanding what NLFW can do, but it all hinges on finding resources.

I have a group of highly skilled individuals willing to quit their jobs, grab their hammers and get to work tackling some of these major home needs that populate our website. I want to push to provide that elderly person with the necessary repairs they need to stay in their homes.

God will provide the direction needed for all of us. He’ll show up when we are truly without a map. I hate waiting sometimes..
