Don't Give Up. Don't Stop The Pursuit.

Jack of many trades, master of none.

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve never really been that great at anything. I’ve been pretty good at things, but never “stand-out star" great. In sports I was always a little un-coordinated, a lot slow, and plain old average. In school I never got straight As, always read slow, and was pretty shy.

Even today, I’m still not great at anything although I’ve learned a lot about many things. I guess that’s been my defense mechanism. I guess I’ve learned how to do a little bit of everything in order to never really have to be great at something. If people realize I’m decent at lots of things, then they’ll never expect me to be great at anything because at least for awhile I’ll be ahead of them. My soul needs me to change this. The Lord deserves better than that from me.

Maybe you resonate with that or maybe you don’t but the reason I tell you this is because I’m being challenged to be great, not just decent. I’ve given up way too much in the past when the line between just being decent at something and being great was drawn in the sand before me.

When we hit those lines in our personal lives, we always know what it’ll take to cross that line into greatness, but are we willing to choose the tough road ahead is always the question. We know the discipline and dedication it’ll take. We know that we must wrestle with every fiber within that doesn’t want to cross that line because it’s not easy to do.

We all know the areas we are being called to be great in right now. What is it going to take? Who’s going to have to push you? Who are you going to have to honest with about it?

Don’t give up on your pursuit towards being great. Maybe for some of you, you know you need to step it up in the relationship department with your family. For some, maybe it’s in your job and for others maybe it’s your pursuit of health and wellness. One area that I think we can all agree on is our pursuit of living with purpose and pursuit of Kingdom living.

I hope to continue this dialogue with you as I continue to work towards being a great servant and an organizational leader.

We’re never happy or feel settled when we’ve given up or given in. We always know when we’ve let ourselves down or let someone else down. Let’s stop the trend and regain the sense of accomplishment or at least the knowledge that we gave it everything we had.

But I think it might be wise for us all to start here. Without the Lord, we’ll never be the right kind of “Great."

28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Matthew 11:28-30
