4.18.09 – Citywide Service Event

I’m excited to announce that NeighborLink Fort Wayne will be doing what it can to organized and mobilize our community of churches to serve on April 18th, 2009. Not only will the City of Fort Wayne be serving that day, but Porter County in Indiana, Auburn, IN, and St Louis MO will possibly be joining us in serving.

We are in the process of identifying a large amount of projects and projects that a large amount of people can work together on. We’ll be focusing mainly on exterior spring clean up type projects that will help our aging, disabled, and home owners in need get there homes in shape. We may even work with the Parks Department to help them out this spring.

Regardless of what we’ll be doing, we will be serving in the name of Jesus and will be meeting needs!

How do you get involved?
Churches: Commit to organizing your congregations on 4.18 to serve locally. It doesn’t matter whether it’s one project or 20 projects, your commitment to the community on that day will make a statement. I’m asking you to organize yourselves completely. Find projects in your neighborhoods or quadrant of the city. Use NLFW.org to find projects. Serve local non-profits and social service organizations. Ask your City Quadrant official how you to serve in a place of need.

For you bigger, more experienced churches, open your doors to the smaller churches and collaborate. Allow them to serve with you or vise versa.

For all churches, open your doors to the individuals in the community that don’t have a community to serve with but want to serve. Help them get organized and find a place.

Individuals: Find a project for yourself, your family, or your small group. Help the neighbor who still has limbs down or whatever you can find. Contact Andrew at NLFW to find churches and groups that are open for you to join.

What Do I Need From You?
I simply need to you get out and help show kindness to someone in need. What I would like from you to know whether or not you’re IN! I want to know whether you want to serve or not and if you need my assistance in finding projects or if you’re on your own. I need to know if you’re willing to allow others to join your groups or not.

I simply need you to communicate with me. Let me know how NLFW can serve you in this process.

Other Important Information:
There are funds available for your projects if needed. First come first serve and you’ll need to submit a detailed request letting me know your plan of attack and how much you’re bringing to the table and how much you need from us. Up to $500 for a project could be awarded.
